Dear Old Trinitians,

Our old school, Trinity College Kandy, Sri Lanka will reach the landmark of 150 years of service to education and character building in 2022.  As many of you are already aware, in May 2018 the Principal, with the backing of the Board of Governors and distinguished old boys, launched the ambitious T150 Project to coincide with this anniversary. This is a major building project designed to improve infrastructure, modernise the school and encourage more students to join the boarding which the Principal believes is an integral part of the school.  It is actually the largest building project undertaken by Trinity and is a very ambitious venture.  The project is expected to be completed in 2022. As per the official press release this project will:

  1. “Improve the ailing infrastructure of the school by renovating historical buildings such as Napier & Allison. Restructure & modernise the boarding facilities in these 2 buildings.

  2. Construct a new Kitchen and Dining Hall complex

  3. Construct two state-of-the-art classroom blocks – one for Science (containing 13 Laboratories) and one for Commerce (also containing a large Common Room for A Level students).

  4. Construct a large Multi-purpose Sports Hall at Asgiriya.

All of the above facilities once completed will meet the modern day needs of an academy combined with facilities for other extra-curricular activities, whilst maintaining the core-values upon which Trinity was built by its forefathers and preserved ever since.”

The cost of this project is Rs. 540 million. (Approximately AU$ 5mn) The Board of Governors has agreed to fund 80% through the school.  Loyal old boys around the world are expected to fund the balance.

On this note, the management committee, in consultation with our senior members and the general membership at the recently concluded annual general meeting, decided that we, as the oldest serving overseas old boys association and possibly the most active, will look to raise a minimum of AU $50,000 as our contribution to this project.

Over the next month we will outline detailed plans on how we aim to achieve our goal. They will include several fund-raising activities over the next 3 years and donations and pledges from old boys and supporters who wish to contribute towards our goal. We have opened a bank account dedicated to this project, which we have stated at the end of this letter. All contributions will be accounted for and the whole process transparent.

We intend to form a committee of a cross section of the old boys community from different eras, so that every old Trinitian is aware of our efforts and will contribute in some way towards this project. We look forward to your support in this endeavour and welcome any ideas about ways to raise funds to help our beloved Alma Mater to live up to its mantle as “The Best School of All”.

Do please communicate with us on (tckoba@hotmail.com) should you have any helpful suggestions which we shall forward to the appointed committee for their consideration.

Now is the time to make a difference.

Thank You

The Management Committee of the Melbourne OBA
